A clean sweep in Brampton as PCs take all five ridings once again

Brampton voters reaffirmed support for Doug Ford and the Progressive Conservative Party Thursday evening, reelecting all five PC incumbents across the city. The five ridings helped Ford form another majority government inside Queen’s Park after calling an early election in the depths of winter.

The decisive victories for all five PC candidates came among record low voter turnout across the city. Unofficial results show all five ridings recorded turnout below 39 percent.

Charmaine Williams claimed victory in Brampton Centre for the second consecutive term, securing 51.9 percent of the vote over her former colleague on Brampton city council Martin Medeiros who was running for the Liberals; he finished a distant second with 33.8 percent of the vote, followed by the NDP’s Sukhamrit Singh with 8.8 percent.

During her first term as MPP Williams was appointed associate minister of women’s social and economic opportunity.

Hardeep Grewal was reelected in Brampton East, defeating Liberal contender and former City of Brampton councillor Vicky Dhillon. Grewal retained his seat by securing 51.8 percent of ballots cast to Dhillon’s 29.8 percent.

Grewal was first elected in 2022 and served in several parliamentary assistant roles during his term.

In the riding of Brampton North, Graham McGregor easily returns to Queen’s Park with 57.5 percent of the vote. His closest challenger, Liberal candidate Ranjit Singh Bagga, received 9,270 votes, 30.3 percent of the total, while the NDP’s Ruby Zaman finished a distant third with 2,479 votes, or 8.1 percent.

McGregor has been the Brampton North representative since 2022. Before the early election call, he was Ontario’s associate minister of auto theft and bail reform.

Serving as transportation minister prior to the election, Prabmeet Sarkaria easily defended his seat in Brampton South, earning 52.9 percent of the vote. His main competitor, Liberal candidate Bhavik Parikh, finished far behind with 9,324 votes, or 32.1 percent.

Sarkaria has represented Brampton South since 2018 and has been transportation minister since September 2023. Prior to that, he was president of the treasury board and has also served as associate minister of small business and red tape reduction, as well as parliamentary assistant to the solicitor general.

The Brampton West riding also remained status quo with Amarjot Sandhu securing his return to Queen’s Park. He won by a significant margin, earning 56.6 percent of the vote, while Liberal challenger Andrew Kania finished second with 32.5 percent. Sandhu has been a backbench MPP and since June 2022 he has worked as the assistant to the minister of infrastructure.

Sandhu was previously charged for operating illegal secondary units in Brampton.
